The recipe
Smoothie base
- 1 cup blueberries, preferably frozen for a thicker bowl
- 1 cup ice (or more to thicken)
- 8 oz oat milk, whole milk, or almond milk
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 1 tablespoon wheat germ
- ½ teaspoon matcha powder
- 1 scoop collagen powder
- 1 scoop protein powder (vanilla or unflavored)
- 1 tablespoon honey, maple syrup, or date paste, or 1–2 pitted dates, adjusted to taste
Toppings
- Fresh banana, sliced
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Homemade granola
- Optional: additional blueberries, hemp seeds, or a sprinkle of wheat germ
Instructions
- Build your base. Add the frozen blueberries, ice, and your choice of milk to a high-speed blender.
- Add the superfoods. Add chia seeds, hemp seeds, wheat germ, matcha, collagen, and protein powder.
- Sweeten naturally. Add your choice of honey, maple syrup, or dates.
- Blend until creamy. Blend until smooth and thick. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash of milk. For a thicker smoothie bowl, start with less than 8 ounces of milk and add more as needed.
- Pour into a bowl. The consistency should be thick enough to eat with a spoon.
- Add your toppings. Arrange sliced bananas and strawberries on top, then finish with a generous sprinkle of homemade granola.
- Enjoy immediately!
Make it your kind of bowl
For a spoonable texture, use frozen blueberries and start with less than the full 8 ounces of milk, adding more as needed. Blend the wheat germ into the base with the other ingredients, then adjust the sweetness to taste.
Finish with sliced banana, strawberries and granola. Add extra blueberries, hemp seeds or a sprinkle of wheat germ if you like, and serve immediately.
